SUSTAINABLE SOUTH BRONX
GREENWAY + GREENBUILDING COORDINATOR

The Greenway and Green building Coordinator will be an experienced and creative planning professional. He/she will be capable of developing, implementing and leading comprehensive greenway and green building programs with a high degree of professionalism, sensitivity and integrity. This person will also be responsible for enhancing the public profile and possible revenue generation of these programs to support the programs of Sustainable South Bronx (SSBx).

Operational Responsibilities

In collaboration with relevant government agencies, private interests, and non-profit partners:
• Advance the implementation of the South Bronx Greenway ("SBG") Master Plan;
• Advocate for appropriate public capital investments in support of local environmental initiatives, with a focus on projects related to the NYC DEP Sewage Treatment Facility expansion;
• Implement the Hunts Point Forestry Plan, with a focus on securing large-scale funding for street tree planting and stewardship through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority;
• Foster a local culture of urban environmental stewardship through public information campaigns, training sessions, and other organizing activities;
• Market and manage a fee-based Small Business Sustainability audit and certification consultancy (see "Research and Program Development Responsibilities" below).

In collaboration with other SSB staff:
Active Living by Design Coordinator:
• Develop public events to promote active lifestyles through the use of local public space, including the annual Hunts Point Hustle 5k Race and the annual "Greening for Breathing" Block Party;
• Cultivate strategic relationships with relevant non-profits working in the areas of public health and nutrition;
• Fulfill all relevant grant reporting responsibilities.
B.E.S.T. Program Director:
• Identify new training opportunities and appropriate training projects for Bronx Environmental Stewardship Training Program participants;
• Manage week-to-week activities of the South Bronx Greenway Stewards;
• Cultivate strategic relationships with relevant environmental non-profits, including the New York City Tree Trust, Trees New York, and the New York Botanical Gardens.

Research and Program Development Responsibilities

Independently:
• Develop in-house knowledge of green building design, construction, and operations, including:
• The creation of a green building materials library; and
• Semi-regular staff trainings and information sessions.
• Research and develop grant proposals for funding related to capital investment and ongoing maintenance of the South Bronx Greenway and surrounding street tree network;
• Actively participate in the growing culture of green building design, construction, and operations in New York City as a representative of SSB.

In collaboration with relevant government agencies, private interests, and non-profit partners:
• Develop a long-term stewardship and maintenance plan for the urban environment of Hunts Point Peninsula, with a focus on generating stable revenue for maintenance activities;
• Develop a strategic multi-year plan for SSB's involvement in the growing sector of green building design, construction, and operation, including:
• Developing, marketing, and managing a proprietary, fee-based Small Business Sustainability audit and certification consultancy for a variety of business types;
• Developing a green building and operations job training program (patterned after the B.E.S.T. program) with a focus on energy audits and efficiency retrofits for existing buildings;
• Identifying philanthropic funding for green collar job training and targeted building retrofit projects;

In collaboration with other SSB staff:
• Track up-to-the-minute academic research relevant to urban environmental restoration, urban forestry, public health, and green building and design

QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 1+ experience. The candidate must have a keen understanding of how to project manage and research. The candidate must also have strong familiarity tree maintenance, green building technologies, and sustainability. The ideal candidate will have a compelling vision related to urban development and the environment, and be able to utilize and motivate those around her/him.
